I'm alive and well, hanging out with my roommate at his family's condo in Memphis, TN. We arrived late Saturday night ahead of a good portion of New Orleans residents who fled from the impending wrath of Katrina.
News coverage has been mediocre at best. It appears that the French Quarter survived relatively intact. That's good, since my apartment is located on the NE edge of the Quarter. UNO, on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain might be a different story, with heavy flooding expected. The whole of the city has been hit hard, but it certainly wasn't as bad as it could have been. Power is out, and I imagine the city will remain closed for at least another day. Then we'll make our way back and begin to assess damage.
UNO is currently closed through Tuesday, but I expect that closure to be extended through the end of the week if not longer. Hopefully damage is not so extensive as to close the campus for a long period of time.
Nothing else to report at the moment. I'll try and update as I learn more, but can't make any promises (access to the 'net will be scarce, I imagine).
Chris out.

glad you're ok :)
I'm glad to hear you've found a safe spot. I was listening to coverage on the radio while i was working today, and I think about you often and hope you're doing fine. Take care, and if the television gets redundant, NPR isn't half bad on the coverage. they probably have a website too. Take care!August 29 2005, 20:20:15 UTC 6 years ago
